Gold Sovereigns
William IV, also known as the Sailor King, was the King of Great Britain and Ireland and also the King of Hanover between 1830 and 1837. He served in the navy from 1779, became an admiral in 1811, and was appointed Lord High Admiral in 1827. He developed Tory sympathies and dismissed Melbourne in 1834, inviting the Tories to form a government. He was succeeded by his niece, Victoria.
